I, A.M. - Artist Mother Project

New works for violin and electronics

Violinist Olivia De Prato’s new release on New World Records features Olivia’s collaboration with Zosha, The Dream Feed.

In Olivia’s words: “The perennial question of whether a woman can be both an artist and a mother has been on my mind for a few years, having started a family myself in 2016. Important as it is, this topic is not often discussed in modern society, especially not in the frenetic environment of New York City. How did this life-changing experience influence our artistic vision and creativity? How do we fit into a society that still believes women must choose between family and art?" […] This project highlights the rich and diverse talent of each artist while giving us a platform to discuss how the challenges and benefits of motherhood shape our artistic endeavors.”

Life Reflected.jpeg

Life Reflected: NACO, Alexander Shelley

"Life Reflected is a stunningly original live experience: a celebration of youth, promise and courage, revealed in the compelling and diverse portraits of four exceptional Canadian women: Alice Munro, Amanda Todd, Roberta Bondar and Rita Joe."

"Four provocative Canadian composers present unique portraits of courageous women in this powerful postmodern collage. Featuring grand, dissonant orchestral arrangements, unsettlingly expressive singing, and piercing spoken word, these intensely personal songs seek to honor the promise and courage of the strong individuals being celebrated."

Featuring Zosha's Dear Life for orchestra, soprano, and recorded narrator, based on a short story by Alice Munro. Other tracks include works by Jocelyn Morlock, Nicole Lizée, and John Estacio.

Released on Analekta, April 2017. Listen on iTunes here.
