Violinist Min-Young Kim and Variant 6 present a program, “Discord and Design,” that examines loss and longing through the lens of J. S. Bach, and will feature Zosha’s Patina for solo violin. The heart of this program is musicologist Helga Thoene’s interpretation of Bach’s Chaconne for violin, composed after the death of his first wife, interwoven with “hidden” chorales sung by the members of Variant 6. Additional composers include Gabriel Jackson, Cecilia MacDowell, Santa Ratniece, and others.
